Since 1949 Foss Jewelers has been serving customers in Central Pennsylvania. Currently the family owned and operated business has two locations – one in Lewistown and one in Mifflintown.
Paul and Aleta Foss began their business as a small watch repair shop on West Third Street in Lewistown. Two years later they moved to 41 West Market Street in Lewistown, where they stayed for 13 years.
Paul had taken the opportunity to buy the Adler building at 134 East Market Street in Lewistown in 1962, when he moved his jewelry store. Here the business stayed until the urban redevelopment of Lewistown began in 1970. In 1971 Foss Jewelers moved to its present location at 130 East Market Street.
Paul and Aleta expanded their business several times throughout the years. They opened the Mifflintown store in 1959; a location in Lewisburg in 1968, and a store in State College in 1986. Eventually the Lewisburg and State College stores were closed, but the Lewistown store and Mifflintown store remain.
Over the years, three Foss generations have worked at the various stores. Currently the two locations employ seven people.
Howard Foss grew up in the jewelry business being mentored by his parents, Paul and Aleta Foss. In 1973 after earning his GIA Diamond Certificate, Howard started working fulltime at the Foss Jewelry Store. Howard is very proficient in all aspects of jewelry repairs, jewelry design, watch and clock repair.
Howard has always been very civic minded and a great supporter of many local charities. He continues to work and learn the jewelry business to better serve his customers. When you are in the Lewistown area stop in at Foss Jewelers and meet Howard and his staff.
